Although it is never explicitly stated in any of the Slayers stories, Naga's past lies in the fact that she is really Gracia Ul Naga Saillune, the First Princess of the kingdom of Saillune. According to the rumors, Naga is the eldest daughter of Prince Philionel El Di Saillune and sister to Amelia Wil Tesla Saillune, another one of Lina's travelling companions. Naga is around seven or eight years older than her justice-loving sister and, like Amelia, studied magic as part of her royal training. Since the daughters of the Saillune family usually become priestesses, Naga was initially taught white magic, but learned shamanist and black magics on her own. At this point in her life, the young Princess dressed in the demure robes of a white priestess.

When 'Gracia' was around 16 years of age, a famed assassin named Booley was sent to Saillune in order to kill the Princess. He missed his mark, however, and assassinated her mother instead. When Naga ran into her mother's chamber, her mother was already dead by the assassin's knife and the room was a bloodbath. This is the explanation for her abhorance of blood. Enraged, Naga then killed Booley, using the white spell Chaos String to do so. After the funeral, Naga found that trademark costume of hers in hiding in the back of mother's closet. Naga grieved deeply for her mother's death and regretted that she had not been able to save her. That was when she vowed to learn more offensive magic so she would never be defensless again. Donning her mother's old outfit, Naga left her home without a word to anyone and began to call herself Naga instead of Gracia.

A few times during Amelia's time travelling with Lina and Gourry, she makes mention of her mysterious sister. She describes her as being older, comparable to Gourry in height, and having a dreadfully obnoxious laugh. Also, once when someone who strongly resembles Naga passes Lina, Gourry and Amelia in a town, Amelia does a quick doubletake! Other than these references, there are a few more supporting details to this version of Naga's past. She and Amelia are similar in appearence, both having purple-black hair and blue eyes as well as both are physically endowed, much more so than Miss Inverse. They also have similar strengths in their magical abilities, (both rely on shamanist magic and have a strong background in white magic) which could be attributed to them having the same royal tutors.

Princess Amelia Wil Tesla SailluneAmelia Wil Tesla Saillune
Her younger sister by about seven years, Amelia is an exuberant young woman who believes devoutly in justice and righting the wrongs of society. When she was about thirteen years old, she joined up with Lina Inverse, who was then about 15 years old herself, and Gourry Gabriev. Like her sister, Amelia is a princess of Saillune, a kingdom also known as "the White Magic Capital of the world." Originally trained in white magic, she decided to travel with Lina and company not only to help spread justice, but to learn more magic. She is an extremely competent sorceress who relies on shamanist magic. Despite her knowledge in magic, the young girl is very klutzy, constantly falling and tripping over her own feet. While being quite bubbly and cheerful, she is sincere and kind-hearted, most of the time. She also looks forward to assuming her responsibilites as the leader of Saillune. Amelia has a very close and loving relationship with her father, Prince Philionel, and she idolizes him. She, in turn, is the apple of his eye.

Prince Philionel El Di Saillune
Naga's father, ruler of Saillune. He is a widower, his wife having been killed by an assassin. He dotes on his younger daughter, Amelia, and shares her enthusiam for justice. He's also presumbably a very lucky man, having survived several assassination attempts.
