Friends »

Little Lina InverseNaga really only has one 'friend,' and using that term is stretching the truth a bit. A young, spunky Lina Inverse is Naga's traveling companion, partner in crime and greatest rival. Although that last one is only in Naga's mind. Despite their partnership, both sorceresses are very clear on the fact that it's not based on some kind of fuzzy feeling like true friendship. Lina is with Naga because she can't seem to get rid of her and she comes in handy if Lina ever needs to sacrifice someone to save herself. Naga is with Lina because she wants to keep the younger sorceress from beating her to any good treasures. And there's no one better to bother at the moment. Despite their mutual, hidden agendas, the girls do share a sort of comraderie, especially when blowing up bandits and splitting loot. Those are the tender moments of the relationship.

The young Lina who travels with Naga displays many of the same traits of the 'older' Lina; greed, fire power, and an unwilling and begrudgig need to help people. Although, she always wants something to be in it for her, mind you. Even in her most heroic moments, she's got a deal in mind. That's what makes her Lina. The girls, in my opinion, are friends, although Lina would rather spend more time without the towering Naga tagging along behind her. But they work well together, and Naga isn't too dumb, too self-righteous or too dismal to travel around with for a while. And that's exactly what Lina does.

Some people might disagree, but I think that many aspects to Lina's nature, she shares with Naga. The greed, for one, is obvious, although even Lina cannot top Naga's selfishness. Also, the laid-back and carefree way they live their respecive lives. Both are spontaneous, changeable and looking for adventure, which is why they work together well. Neither sorceress is what one would consider patient, and Lina's temper is legendary. Because of these similarites in disposition and attitude, Naga and Lina manage to stand each other long enough to have a few fun adventures while searcing for food, treasure and bandits to blow up.
