As with everything which involves Naga, her appearence into the Slayers universe was zany and unforgettable. After leaving for a few hours, the young sorceress Lina Inverse returns to her inn to find it being consumed by a raging fire. One young woman has managed to get herself trapped in the blazing inferno. Lina has to save said young woman, who happens to be scantily-clad and a powerful if haphazard soceress. That laugh.... So Lina meets Naga the Serpent, a strange woman who accidently set the inn on fire while attempting to impress Lina with her magical skills. The fact that Lina wasn't even present to see the glorious show makes the whole situation when more ridiculous. For some reason, Naga gets it into her mind that *she* is Lina's most powerful rival and so she tags along with the dimunitive Dra-matta, refusing to miss a good treasure, a good meal, or a good bottle of wine. And that's the origins of Naga as a Slayer.

What happened to Naga before and after her travels with Lina are a little vague. Naga never really talk much about her own past and how the two part in the end has never been explained. What is known about the buxom sorceress is that she suffers from some unknown tragedy in her past which made her obsessively squeamish about blood, so unnerved that she faints at the sight of it, which she blames on her delicate nature. Also because of this same tragedy, it is inferred that Naga never uses the sword she carries at her side. It's also apparent that Naga loves money and is even more greedy than Lina.

Naga is about 19 years old when she travels with Lina and the young sorceress is approximately 13 -14 years old. This makes Naga her 'first' travelling companion, before Zelgadiss, Amelia or even Gourry. This dynamic duo spend most of their time in search of treasure or a good paying mercenary job to pay for their expenses. One such engagement involved them helping an effeminate prince named Jeffery prove that he is 'man enough' to join the Royal Guard. Of course, chaos ensues and poor Naga takes more than one blow from Jeffery's eeriely powerful mother, Josephine for sharing her not-so-kind opinion about the boy. They also tried bounty hunting, helping the Professional Magic-user's Society track down a crazed vice-president who was after a magical mirror. And of course Naga did try to hire herself out independently to a group of bandits who were after a pesky flat-chested little girl--who else but the young Lina Inverse? It's just of the unlucky instances in Lina's life when after trying so hard to lose Naga, the towering lass still manages to find her.

Just as vague as Naga's past is the circumstances surrounding their eventual separation. Did Lina finally give Naga the ultimate slip? Or did Naga find herself an even more greedy partner-in-business? I'm not sure anybody knows the truth except that the two did separate and Lina moved on to gain a whole new motely group of companions. What about Naga? I think to think she's still out there, roaming the land, looking for the next adventure.
