Personality »

Naga summarizes the vital parts of her own personality quite aptly: "a supreme sense of superiority and and extreme self-confidence." These are the essentials aspects of Naga's character. She's also greedy, flashy and very curious.

The fact that Naga is greedy, both for money and food, is one of the biggest driving forces in her life. She's with Lina for those very reasons, in fact, and is always worried that Lina is having better food and finding good treasure whenever she's not around. Of course, her extreme greediness only serves to soften Lina's slightly-less-extreme greediness, since Naga is probably the only Slayer able to top the little sorceress in that respect.

One of the most endearing, if deluded, qualities of Naga's personality is her utter confidence in herself and her abilities. Never does Naga question the power of her magic, or doubt that she is unrefutably Lina's greatest rival. Even when she should doubt it. That confidence is what allows her to be who she is....which is a loud-mouth, scantily clad sorceress! Really, Naga's pride in herself and her capabilities is one of her better qualities. One of her not-quite-so-good qualities is her apparent lack of listening skills. Lots of time she completely misses what Lina is saying. Not because she's dense like Gourry, but because she's simply too busy thinking about her own plans and agendas to worry about what Lina is saying. It's a symptom of her overconfidence; she doesn't need to listen to a reasonable, well-thought plan because she doesn't need the plan. She can handle it. Another symptom of her overconfidence is that barely-there outfit of hers, which shows off her generous proportions. It's not that Naga is deliberately flaunting her figure in a way that's about sex or attraction. She is just proud of her looks and is so completely comfortable with herself that modesty is long-gone. That comfort is another way in which Naga differs from Lina, since one of Lina's soft spots in her unhappiness about her body.

Curious? Not a description usually associated with Naga, but one that is a good label for that little ingredient that just gives Naga her...Naga-ness. This is that part of Naga that makes her want to turn Lina into the "Scary Chimera" or that makes her construct her own spells which are renown for going awry. Naga has no want to simply sit back and be satisified with what she already knows or has. She wants to find more, learn more, do more than she's already accomplished. Isn't that what makes someone an adevnturer or a treasure-hunter? The drive to find something that was lost before. Well, whatever it is, Naga has it. And I've decided to call it curiosity. Let's just be glad she's not a cat.
